We are back, in body at least - I think we all left a little of our spirit there in Key West. Despite the commercialization and strain of tourism, the Keys are still such a beautiful place to visit and I could easily live there, if money was not an issue.

Emma was again a very good little traveler. She has endless energy, so sleeping on the plane proved to be a difficult task. And gone are the leisurely plane rides for Jam and I, where we can catch up on a book or stack of magazines, but all-in-all she did a very good job of being cute and good.

She loved having us all to herself all week long with no work or things that had to be done. We bummed around the island and did some touristy stuff, took a lot of *first* pictures with her, dipped our toes in the ocean - it was all very laid back. While she took naps Jam and I did get to catch up on our reading and relaxing by the pool, since our cottage had a great little back porch, a yard with trees for a hammock and a jacuzzi, and it was right next to the pool.

We needed our afternoon naps because we didn't get much sleep during the nights...Em had some really rough nights. She had a temperature of 103 for a few of them, I think either teeth/ears were bothering her for a few of them, and I honestly don't know what else may have been wrong. She got her chick pox vaccination last week and so she also had a "chicken pox-like rash" for a few nights. It was so weird - because she had great naps and was perfect throughout the day...maybe she just missed her crib?

The most fun was seeing her reaction to all of the animals that wander around Key West - there are tons of cats and chickens. She loved them all. She also liked the scooters that people rent to get around the island. Every time one went past (they are usually kinda loud) she would say "va-va-va-vroooom!"

She liked her toes in the ocean...then she tried to sit down and didn't like that so much. She loved "swimming" in the pool and the "hot" pool (jacuzzi) - we didn't turn the heat/jets on, but it was like a mini-pool for her.

The other thing that totally shocked us is she LOVES shrimp. The first day we went for lunch at my favorite place (Turtle Kraals) where you can get a pile of peel-n-eat shrimp. Emma kept doing her "more" sign, so I gave her a little piece figuring she wouldn't like it. She went crazy! She kept signing "MORE" and shoveling them in. I was worried at first, that it wouldn't be good for her - but she didn't show any reaction to them. And then for the rest of the week if we got shrimp she would get SO excited when they would bring them out. I'm certain she ate her weight in shrimp over the course of the week.

So it was nice to be away, but it is always nice to come home! And when we pulled up our drive we were welcomed by our tulips in bloom...so spring officially came while we were away and now it is time to get to gardening and getting ready for summer!
