Ok, so we didn't get a chance to update the journal before, during or right after Christmas, but we have had a wonderful last half of December.

Em and I got to go on our "date" and had a great time. I think it will be a very fun tradition for us (and Addie when she is old enough) to do around Christmas time. We went with my friend Kathryn and her little girl Sarah to a tea room/chocolate bar in Chicago. The girls were all dressed up in their Christmas best and looked so cute sitting having lunch - and the place was adorable. Then we went to see the Nutcracker and Emma was riveted! She sat on my lap the entire time and just soaked it all in. Her favorite part was the "tiny ballerinas" dressed as the mice(and when she says it she says "tiiiiny ballerinas" in her little squeaky high-pitched voice - it is so cute!!). During intermission Em and Sarah were showing us all their ballerina dance moves in the hallway, so I guess ballet lessons are next on the list!

Then Uncle Jeff came to visit, and Daddy had the entire week between Christmas and New Year's off - so the girls (and me, too!) were totally spoiled with tons of attention and lots of playtime. Today was our first day with everyone gone back to work, it is a little sad and gloomy - of course the weather doesn't help much.

Although Em had a raging cold that started Christmas Eve/Day - Christmas was still sooo fun! There is nothing like seeing Christmas through your child's eyes. We did all of the little things like putting out a note and cookies for Santa that we used to do when we were kids and it just brought back a ton of memories. I remember when Ken, Michelle and I used to all sleep in one big bed on Christmas Eve so we would wake up together and wait til it was time to get Mom and Dad up. Needless to say, I have a new-found appreciation for my parents and Santa Claus - it is hard to get all of the special Christmas things done in time (and still get up at the crack of dawn to see if Santa came!).

All in all, a very good Christmas and little mini-vacation for our family. I hope the New Year found all of you happy and healthy as well. Here is to a Happy 2006!
