Weird sort of day. on Friday, October 13, 2006 @ 16:23 PM

Is it wrong to want to run away from home when you are 34 years old and a mom of 2 little girls? I have been feeling this crazy urge to just run screaming from the house and try to block all of the whining, crying, and sleepless children from my mind. That is how our day started again this morning...

Plus, to top everything off, our sitter has been sick the past two days, so I'm attempting to get a lot of projects done while my whiny, sobbing, sleep-deprived children cling onto me every waking moment. Needless to say, it has been a long, make that LOOONNGG, week around here.

Today we did manage to make it to the gym, which helped my mental state a bit and we went to meet J. for lunch. We were sitting outside on the picnic tables waiting for J. to arrive (Yeah, I know it is snowing back in Michigan & Chicago...the sunny 70 degree day, also helped the mental state a bit!), and I heard this thud and a car came screeching to a halt across the street from where we were sitting.

Then I watched a guy get out of the car, sprint around to the front and I heard this horrific scream and people started running from all over. The guy sitting at the table next to us said, "that was a girl he hit." I felt light-headed as all the blood drained from my head, and I got that icky feeling in the pit of your stomach, you know the one where you feel like you are going to be sick?

Then, all of a sudden, my day didn't seem so unbearable. In fact my life seems pretty damn good. It stinks that it took something so horrible to jolt me out of my own little pity party, and force me to remember that I am so, SO lucky to have my girls. I am lucky that they can cry and that I can hear them and be here to calm them; and we are lucky to have a very nice place to (sometimes) sleep, and food to eat.

I thank God that the girl was ok. And I also thank him for snapping me out of my funk, and not-so-gently reminding me just how fortunate I am.
